SWIM WITH GIANT TUNA
The chance that someone will say, ”I’ve also tried that”, when you are telling him or her that you have swam with giant tunas, is extremely little. This is a very special opportunity to experience the ocean and its huge inhabitants at close range – and it is completely safe!
Huge bluefin tuna (up to 250 kg) are breed in big pools near the beautiful coast of Costa Dorada. You will be sailed the 5 km out to the tuna on a comfortable and modern catamaran. Here, you can stand on the top deck and enjoy the fresh ocean air and the view to the wonderful mountain landscape, or you can learn about the bluefin tuna and its history. The crew is also preparing tuna sashimi and cava that you can enjoy on the way back to the shore.
Arriving at the tuna pool, the experienced crew takes care of you. They will provide diving masks and snorkels (and wet suits if the weather is cold). They also feed to tuna to bring them to the surface. Here, you actually have the opportunity to almost hand feed a giant tuna! Don’t worry, they will not attack your hand. Actually, they keep a suitable distance to you when they with one flick with the tail will take the food when it is a few meters from you. However, this will still be an unforgettable experience.
There are two belts of foam rings that helps people float, so you do not have to tread water the whole time – you can just lay in the water and look down in the water through the mask. This means that unexperienced swimmers also can enjoy the experience. Furthermore, there is a professional diver in the water the whole time.
To prove it to friends and family, it is possible to buy underwater pictures of you and the tuna – just consult the crew before going in the water.
