Casa del Olmo – “the house by the Elm” - is a cosy very typical Catalan country house, situated where some fields for grassing horses creates a green and sunny oasis in the forest.
From the house, there is a long walk down to the village Sant Pau on the bank of the Ter river, which starts in the Pyrenees and makes its way down through Catalonia, passing the regional capitol Girona, before it flows into the Mediterranean Sea.
From the entrance door you enter the very spacious and cosy country kitchen, which is preserved in original style and with the long wooden table and the rustic cabinet only adding to this impression. For the comfort modern conveniences such as stove, dishwasher, fridge with freezer, coffeemaker etc. has been added.
In the other side of the kitchen, there is direct access to the covered terrace with a beautiful view over the landscape. It is so well integrated, that you almost feel that you are cooking on the terrace.
On the two floors you find in total 5 double bedrooms, four of them with single beds and one of them with a double bed. Additionally, two extra beds are optional against supplement. The house has 2 bathrooms and the cosy attic has been made into a TV-room also with a DVD. The house has also a washing machine.
Outside, the beautiful swimming pool tempts you to have a dip, especially in the warm Catalan summer. Afterwards, relaxation in a sun lounger with a book or simply enjoying the scenery is a perfect way to gain new energy.
The situation in 980 meters altitude makes the summers very pleasant and even in the summer, there is sometimes snow. It is really a beautiful part of Catalonia, and ideal for those, who want to be near the mountains without losing the easy possibility of exploring the rest of Catalonia on half- of full day trips.
For instance, the drive down towards Figueres, passing Olot and on to Costa Brava, is a very nice excursion, where you can feel the Mediterranean sand at the beach at Roses or alternatively snorkelling around Llancá, perhaps a visit to the Museo Teatro Dalí in Figueres, which is also suitable for children due to his very special art, and then eat dinner in the cosy town of Olot on the way back.
Another day, you could make your way down to Barcelona, to have a look at this impressive metropolis. If you want shorter trips, Vic is a beautiful town and has Catalonia’s biggest market Tuesday and Saturday mornings. Even closer you find Ripoll, which is also a very nice town and the smaller neighbour-towns Sant Joan de les Abadesses or Camprodón.

Description of the region :
THE UNSPOILT PYRENEES The 450 km long mountain range with snowcapped peaks that rises to the 3000m curve bounds the Iberian peninsula from the rest of the continent. The wooded hills with lush wildlife, lakes and rivers are among the most unspoiled wilderness areas in Europe. These are the Pyrenees and not only nature lovers will feel at home here - there are plenty of activity providers, which offer kayaking and rafting at different levels and rivers. Furthermore, it is a cultural rich area with lots of small, authentic villages.
ADVENTURE AND OUTDOOR PARADISE If you love adventure or just looking for a day with plenty of fresh air and action, the Pyrenees are the perfect place. Water sport is great here and it is for example a perfect day trip and an unforgettable experience for the whole holiday group to sail down a roaring river in a large, solid rubber dinghy with an experienced rafting instructor. Similarly, you can take a ride in the kayak, and here you can of course choose the difficulty level - for the adrenaline-seeking people, there are waterfalls and fast riffles, while for the family, there are calm, flat-water stretches, where you can also sail to the shore and take a lunch break in the beautiful surroundings. A hiking or walking trip is a good way to experience the beautiful scenery – here, there is time for all the impressions and you have a good opportunity to perpetuate the landscape on camera. There is a hiking trail with the name GR10, which runs from the Mediterranean coast to the Atlantic coast. It is recommended to walk at least a short stretch of this popular path. During winter, the Pyrenees transform into a snow paradise, where there is plenty of opportunity for skiing and snowboarding. This is often a cheaper but still great alternative to the typical French Alps.
LOCAL COZY VILLAGES In the hilly landscape are many small, quaint villages, where the typical Catalan atmosphere and culture faithfully exists. If you are looking for authenticity and an alternative to mass tourism, these towns are worth a visit. Similarly, the restaurants in these villages is very well recommended where it is often natural, local ingredients used in the kitchen. If you want to visit bigger city in the area, Berga is a good option. There are plenty of shopping, pedestrian streets and markets. The city has a long history and the name comes from an Iberian tribe called Bergistani that after several matches had to surrender to the Romans. In the eastern area of the Pyrenees, there is a very special valley called Vall de Núria. It is a valley about 2000 m above sea level, which, like the rest of the area is very scenic and wonderful. However, there is just one thing - there are no roads there. You can only enter by either a 12- km-long train ride south from Catalonia or a long walk from France up north. In summer, the valley is lush and green, and during the winter, there is a popular ski resort.
ANDORRA With a size of 467 km2, the small country of Andorra lies between the high mountains of the Pyrenees. While on vacation in Catalonia, a visit to this unique, beautiful country is a great idea for a day trip. Besides just being a "duty-free heaven" (where the shopping opportunities are endless), there are plenty of adventure opportunities, natural parks and medieval details and buildings. There are also lots of wellness - including hot spring pools.
