Nearest town (5km):

Arriving at Casa Granmont you immediately feel arriving in Catalonia. You leave the main road to follow the small gravel road passing a few houses, a stream and then drive between the wine yards, seeing the house coming closer, slightly above the landscape in the distance.

The house has been completely reformed and designed to be as eco-friendly as possible, using sustainable energy from the sun and by recycling the water in an advanced ecosystem next to the house. The walls are made from excess clay, when the swimming pool was made and with the heating system integrated in the walls (one of the first houses in Catalonia to use this technique), you will find some excellent architectural solutions and all modern facilities you need.

The natural centre for your holiday is the big common room for cooking and eating next to the swimming pool, with a big dining table, kitchen and direct access to the swimming pool and the outdoor terrace.

Entering the house by the nice hall, you will pass the “bodega” of the house, where the idea is to organize wine tastings and of course preserve a very authentic function in the house, historically. This was where they used to keep the wine. On the first and second floor, you will find the living spaces, divided into 3 units, as the house is rented as separate apartments.

This apartment is on the first floor and is called "Romanie". There are two bedrooms: one of them has a double bed and the other one has two single beds, making the apartment perfect for a family. The rooms are designed in a Nordic style and each have a balcony. There is also a fully equipped and modern bathroom with shower. Furthermore, the apartment has a large common room with a kitchen, dining rooms, sitting area and access to a nice terrace on the first floor, where you have a nice view over the valley.

From the house, the nearest village with a couple of restaurants, a supermarket, pharmacy and some shops is less than 30 minutes’ walk away, or 5 minutes by car. For long excursions, you can get to Barcelona or to the beaches of Sitges in 1 hour. If you want to go to the mountains, thePyrenees is 1 hour away in the other direction.

In one end of the house, a kind couple live in a separate apartment. They will leave you with all the privacy you need, but be available if you have questions or doubts regarding the house or the area.

Description of the region :

Penedes is Catalonia's leading wine region located southwest of Barcelona and  considered to be aligned with Rioja in popularity. Penedes is one of the oldest wine producing areas in Europe with emphasis on white wine varieties, which primarily  are used for sparkling wine, but also reputable oak-aged reds are produced
The calcareous soils of Penedes is perfect for the wine production, which can be traced back to the Phoenician time when the Chardonnay grape was introduced.
Penedes region is divided into three:

Penedes Baix is the lowest lying coastal region, where the climate is hot and where the soil is a mixture of limestone and clay, which is well suited for growing Camacha and Tempranillo grapes.

Penedes Medio has a cooler climate and the wine is grown on hill sides in the hilly landscape. This area produces approx. 60% of the Penedes wines, especially the white varieties Xarello and Macabeo.

Penedes Alto is, as the name suggests, the highest lying area with the highest humidity.. The Alto region is known for light, lemon flavored white wines, for example Parallada, grown in up to 800 m above sea level. Some of the vineyards are considered to be among the best in Europe.
