Responsible Tourism

Living local is a great chance to make a real difference using "Responsible Tourism" which are supporting the local Catalan farmers as it aids maintaining traditional ways of living. Renovating the beautiful country homes, with a high degree of respect, stops the areas of mass tourism to grow larger and preserve the stunning scenery, wildlife and glory in Catalonia's historic buildings and precious heritage.

Masia Gravat - A large, historic house with the perfect location, own wellness and a great pool area

In the incredibly beautiful and hilly countryside just 12 km from the beautiful and historic city of Girona (also called Barcelona's little sister) the beautiful holiday home Masia Gravat is located on a small hilltop. A house that has many great features such as its location, price, quality and size. The charming Spanish holiday house at 600m2 can accommodate up to 16 + 2 people and has a great pool area with a beautiful view, a wellness area with both spa, sauna and steam room, a charming terrace and several leisure activities.

The large holiday house dates all the way back to the 1200’s, where it served as a fortress for the local "chief", whose crest still hangs and decorates above the main entrance. The house has a lot of character with many levels, charming corners and a surprising architectural decor. It Is easily recognized that Masia Gravat is a historical building. The view offers everything from nut trees, orchards and forest land and just 500 meters from the house a church tower peeks up from the small town Estanyol. It would be difficult to find a more idyllic location for a holiday house like Masia Gravat.

The holiday house is built around a lovely courtyard where vines are planted. This area provides shade which is a must on the warm, sunny summer days. The vines create a cozy and special Mediterranean atmosphere. A large table is also located in the courtyard, where your meals can be enjoyed throughout the day. Right by the terrace there is also an area with a BBQ and a small utility room with an extra fridge (so you have plenty of space for large amount of shopping). Food and beverages can therefore easily be reached, when you are by the pool or on the terrace. The terrace also provides a view of the swimming pool.
Coming from the main entrance, you enter the beautiful hall with antique furniture that instantly sends you back to the time of the 1200’s, when the chief Viscount of Cabrera used the place as his fortress. At the back of the room is a beautiful arch that leads into a second living room which features a pool table, several couches and a flat screen television.

The kitchen is in an antique style, but offers everything that is needed in a kitchen. It stores a fridge, gas stove, electric oven, toaster, juicer, coffee maker and even an antique bread oven that runs on firewood. So the kitchen could hardly be more authentic.

The most luxurious feature of Masia Gravat is undoubtedly the wonderful spa area, which is located on one of the house's upper levels. Here you can lie and recharge whilst enjoying the view through the giant windows facing the beautiful valley. The spa room features a spa, sauna and steam room. So many hours can be enjoyed in the completely private wellness area of the house.

In addition to the many common areas, Masia Gravat also has 7 bedrooms that can accommodate up to 16 (+2) people. On the ground floor there are two bedrooms one with a small double bed (150x200) and one with 3 single beds. Two bathrooms can also be found on the ground floor (one of them linked to the spa area).

There is furthermore 5 bedrooms on the upper floor, where two of them are joined together. These two rooms are perfect for either a shared children’s bedroom, or for a family of 4-5 people. On the upper floor is furthermore a room with three single beds (90x200) and via the room you'll find a small staircase which leads up to the upper room with two single beds. We recommend that this room is primarily used by children or adolescents. They will enjoy themselves tremendously in the charming room. The 7th room is a double room with a double bed. There is three bathrooms on the top floor.

On the upper floor yet another terrace is located. This terrace features sun chairs and a smaller table. From here you'll find the most beautiful views from the house. We imagine that you will seek up here and enjoy the serenity and beauty when looking for a little quietness and a place to relax. If travelling with many generations, we imagine that the grandparents would enjoy being able to sit up here and enjoy some peace and quiet for a short while, during the afternoon.

Within walking distance from the house the owner's restaurant / café can be found. As a guest at Masia Gravat you will be able to play tennis for free at the restaurant's two tennis courts, and there is also a large play area for the restaurant's guests including table tennis and foosball. Here you have the opportunity to eat a lovely home-cooked three-course lunch meal for just 10 euros.

Masia Gravat is an excellent choice of a holiday home for those who appreciate a historical property in a wonderful area of Catalonia. Here you are provided with a beautiful view, a great pool area and an incredibly cozy terrace. Last but not least, there is the lovely spa area and the easy access to Girona along with a heap of activities in the Girona area.

Description of the region :

Costa Brava Catalonia

If you wish to absorb the lively local life in one of the smaller villages in the Girona region, go swimming on the stunning beaches of the Costa Brava. Go hiking in the Pyrenees or see some of the most interesting museums in Catalonia. If you want everything in a week and within your reach, we highly recommend the Girona region  - one of the most beautiful regions in all of northern Catalonia.

The city of Gerona, near the French border. It is a beautiful city where you get a real feeling for its history just by walking through its ancient streets. Its a walled city which dates back to the Roman period, the old quarter is located within the city walls. The city of Girona has a rich, detailed, and dramatic history. The first inhabitants of the area were the Iberians. Then came the Romans who built a fortification there, which was named Gerunda. After having been occupied by a number of cultures, Girona finally fell under control by the Holy Roman Empire. In the 12 th century, the Jewish community flourished in Girona , and a major Kabbalistic school was built. However, the Catholic kings drove the Jews away from Spain in 1492. Later on, in the 17 th to 18 th century, Girona fell under siege by the French, and it was conquered by Napoleon in 1809. The walls of the city were destroyed in the 19 th century. Today, the city is a rich heritage site full of historic and cultural beauty.

The most striking characteristic about of the province is undoubtedly its great diversity. From a tourist point of view it can offer a magnificent coastal area -the internationally recognised Costa Brava- as well as a fine mountain region, which is ideal for both tourism and the practice of a wide variety of sports. This balance between coastal and inland scenery, along with a mild climate, helps attract tourists to the province throughout the year.

The coastline

The coastline north of Barcelona, the Costa Brava, is one of the busiest coastlines in northern Spain. White sand beaches, lifeguards on duty, and one restaurant after another makes it a perfect spot for an easy day on the beach. To the north the town of Roses, provides rental of windsurfers, diving equipment etc.  However should you prefer something a little quieter, we highly recommend the small village of Cadaques a to the north. This beautiful village build on the rocks around a small bay, is virtually untouched by modern day mass-tourism. And although the are no sandy beaches the water is clearer and perfect for a small snorkelling-trip. Cadaques is also the birth town of Salvador Dali, and was a reuge for painters and jazz-musicians. The small and central square is a beautiful little place for a lunch. The town also has some small very good and cosy seafood restaurants.

Theater Museum Dali

Figueres - Dalí

The hometown of one of the worlds most influential surreal artists Salvador Dali- Figueres, is also home of the official Dali museum. This spectacular is a must-see for all visitors in the area.  Designed by Dali himself, the museum is a piece of art in itself, on the outside as well as the inside. For extensive info and ticket reservations follow this link to the official web-side of the museum in English.
