Stay in historical holiday home with a great view!

El Monasterío is beautifully situated on top of a hill, where the templars in the 1400s used the house as a base. This castle has now been fully restored and to put the icing on the cake there was in the summer of 2006 made a big and great swimming pool. The holiday home has room for 14 people, which is perfect for one or more families on holiday together. This house will put up a solid base for an excellent holiday in the Catalan area.

The history:

Templars chose his time to build their castle here, because they had a good view of the area below from the top of the hill. If you look at pictures of the view, is also not in doubt that it was a very good choice. A better view is very hard to get. Besides the view, the location provides a very peaceful atmosphere, as there are no houses nearby. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday, this is the place.

Despite the renovation, there are still many relics from the time when it was the property of the templars. You can for an example still see the cannon holes in some places in the house, but the most prominent of all is that there is a small authentic church in the backyard, which dates back to the 13th century. If you are curious, you can borrow a key to the church from the owners.

The outside areas:

The pool area of the holiday home stands out. Firstly, the pool is large with a size of less than 32 m2, and secondly, the view is indescribable good, because the pool is equal to the edge of the tray. There has been put a fence for safety reasons. In addition, there are sun beds for all guests in the house. Right next to the pool there is a covered terrace, which probably will be the meeting point of the holiday. There is also another terrace with direct access to the kitchen. Here you can enjoy the homemade food during the long and warm Catalan evenings.

The indoor areas:

After a reform in 2021, El Monasterio can now offer 9 bedrooms in total.

The ground floor:
In the ground floor, you find the game room and the stairway to the upper floors. From her, you can access the pool area.

First floor:
There two bedrooms in the first floor level, where you also find the kitchen, dining room and the upper terrace. One bedroom has a double bed and one bedroom has two single beds. They share a bathroom.

The well-equipped and beautiful kitchen has among others a microwave, a dishwasher, a oven and much more. It is even possible to book a private chef one evening - it is strongly recommended. Connected to the kitchen there is a large and classic Catalan long table, where you can enjoy the food. In the same room there is a small sitting area with soft couches.

Second floor:
On the second floor, you find 7 more bedrooms. All of them have bathrooms ensuite. They are distributed as follows:

- Double room with two single beds and bathroom ensuite
- Double room with two single beds and bathroom ensuite
- Double room with double bed and bathroom ensuite
- Double room with double bed and bathroom ensuite
- Triple room with 3 single beds and bathroom ensuite
- Triple room with 1 double bed and 1 single beds and bathroom ensuite
- One five-bed room with 5 single beds and bathroom ensuite.

The surroundings:

El Monasterio is situated on the top of a hill, making you feel on top of the world and with the kind owners house as only "nearby neighbour" 400 meters down the road (literally "down" :-) ). This also give you the fantastic view over the area.

Even the seemingly remote location, the big village Gironella is only 10 minutes away. Here you find, shops, bakery, supermarket and restaurants and there is also a tennis club.

10 minutes more by the C-16 motorway, you will reach the regional capitol Berga with bigger supermarkets, and if you continue, the beautiful natural parks of the Pyrenees.

In the other direction, Barcelona is 75 minutes away, or you can turn right in Manresa and drive through the Penedés wine district and to the Mediterranean Sea in for instance Sitges.

Das Haus hat eine wunderbare Alleinlage und ist komplett von schöner Landschaft umgeben. Es war sehr, sehr sauber und der Pool ist einfach nur großartig. Der Pool wurde alle zwei Tage in den frühen Morgenstunden sauber gemacht. Antonio spricht kein Englisch, aber sein Sohn hat alles übersetzt und beide waren wirklich sehr freundliche und tolle Gastgeber.

The house has a wonderful secluded location and is completely surrounded by beautiful countryside. It was very very clean and the pool is just great. The pool was cleaned every two days early in the morning. Antonio doesn't speak English but his son translated everything and both were really very friendly and great hosts.

La maison bénéficie d'un magnifique emplacement isolé et est complètement entourée d'une belle campagne. C'était très très propre et la piscine est tout simplement géniale. La piscine était nettoyée tous les deux jours tôt le matin. Antonio ne parle pas anglais mais son fils a tout traduit et les deux étaient vraiment très sympathiques et des hôtes formidables.

Vi havde en fantastisk uge, i et meget smukt historisk hus, med egen kirke / kapel. En stor oplevelse, huset har en vidunderlig udsigt og er flot renoveret. Fungerer super godt, når man er mange personer.

Nous avons passé une semaine fantastique, dans une très belle maison historique, avec sa propre église / chapelle. Une belle expérience, la maison a une vue magnifique et est joliment rénovée. Fonctionne très bien quand il y a beaucoup de monde.

We found Il Monasterio without problems, following the instruction provided by Google Maps. We will, without hesitation, give Il Monasterio 5 large stars. We, 15 familymembers, had a wonderful week at the place . We enjoyed the tranquillity, spaciousness and unique location. Our teenagers enjoyed the tabletennis, tabefootball and beeing able to party downstairs without disturbing the parents. The poolarea was great and enough sunbeds for everyone. We enjoyed the rustic rooms with private bathroom and a much used fan. We spend at great deal of time in the kitchenarea cooking great meals and it had al we needed, however sharp knives or a grindstone would have been helpfull. The problems ( failling wifi and powerless washingmashine) that we encounterde during our stay, were quickly solved by the owner. We had the greatest week and will highly recommend a vaccation at Il Monasterio .

Ce lieu est tout simplement FANTASTIQUE !!!

Immense, propre, calme et isolé : parfait pour une parenthèse en famille et/ou entre amis ! Nous étions 11, mais l'endroit peu convenir à un groupe de 15 ou 20 personnes.

La vue sur les Pyrénées au lever comme au coucher du soleil est magnifique.
Les deux terrasses ombragées, dont une avec barbecue, riment avec repas et convivialité.
Les espaces communs (cuisine, salle a manger, salons, salle de jeux) sont immenses et pratiques.
Les chambres sont spacieuses, et la majorité d'entre elles possèdent une salle de bain privative.

Quand à la piscine orientée plein sud, qui prend le soleil toute la journée, c'est un pur régal ! Température de l'eau à 26° alors qu'elle n'est pas chauffée ! Illuminée en soirée, et nettoyée tous les matins; la profondeur de la piscine varie entre environ 80 cm et 1m60 . ( Il manque juste une prise électrique sous l'abri de piscine.)

Les échanges par mail ont été courtois, et rapides, (et en Français de plus - Merci ).
L'accueil sur place est sympathique et efficace : Gracias Antoni !

Ballades et randonnées aux alentours , et supermarchés à moins de 20 minutes ( Berga - Gironella)

Que dire de plus, nous avons passé une semaine exceptionnelle, à l'image de cette location de vacances !

We are a family of 15, 11 adults, 2 children and 2 infants who spent a week at El Monasterio in August 2019. It is a wonderful, spacious property, very peaceful, on 3 floors allowing for people to 'do their own thing' should they wish to.
Amazing views, brilliant pool, plenty of sun loungers for the pool area and on the top terrace where we spent our evenings. The property was very clean, neat and tidy both inside and out.
The owner and his son were very friendly and welcoming and were there on our arrival to give us a tour and answer any queries and were easily contactable should we have needed them during the week.
Lovely property, lovely holiday enjoyed by us all.

We’ve just left El Monasterio after a wonderful week there. It was ideal for our large family group - plenty of space so children could do different things; simple decor with no worries children might break things or damage carpets; wonderful views; the two terraces where the 15 of us had all our meals; and the pool which was much used. The owner Antoni was really pleasant (fortunately we had several Spanish speakers in the group). He took time explaining various activities and at the end of the week showed us the chapel and explained its history.

I need hardly say that everything was clean and ready for our arrival. No issues there at all.

We made a lot of use of the fans in the bedrooms as it was very hot during our week - too warm for some of us.

Some thoughts for the future…
- more detail about finding the house would be useful. You might suggest that Google maps seem better than some other satnav systems, at least for this location. .
- a second dishwasher would be useful with large groups, and it would be really valuable if the present one were to break down.

Thank you for originally suggesting a list of properties, including this one, and for dealing with all our queries so quickly.

El Monasterio is a very nice place to stay: amazing views from the large terrace! a very nice and big pool with lots of deckchairs to relax. The is very comfortable en clean. The owner and his son are very friendly and helpful.

El Monasterio is a sublime villa with amazing views. It is a great place for friends, family and children. There is a lot of space for having privacy and also beautiful rooms and terraces to gather together to enjoy the view and have a nice meal. The pool is good and all the rooms have their own bathrooms. Bedrooms are very clean and the linen are very nice, good quality beds. The owner was very helpful and made a doctor's app for us when one of our children had an ear infection. We hope to come back one day.

Dette er et helt igennem fantastisk hus med en super beliggenhed og med alt man har brug for. Ejerne er virkelige søde og hjælpsomme og det er et sted man kan nyde at slappe af 100%. Vi har prøvet flere huse i området og dette er indtil nu det absolut bedste.
Tak for et super ophold.
