Are you a larger group with many children or a slightly smaller group who just want to be a short drive from both a fantastic city like Girona and the Costa Brava coast with its mix of hidden small beaches, white fishing villages and more touristy areas with wide sandy beaches and lots of cafes and restaurants, then Masia de Serrén is perfect.
The house is unusually well communicated with the highway to both Girona, to the coast and to Barcelona a few kilometers away. In fact, so close that we were a little excited when we visited the house to see if there were any possible noise nuisances. However, the house is protected by hills, and you do not feel the proximity to civilization when you sit by the pool or on the terrace and look out over the fields in the other direction, towards the village of Fornells, which was the only residence before Girona when the house's grandmother, who we had a nice chat, were children and then lived in the house.
You also still sense the history of the house in the beautiful and authentic Catalan boulder house, which now forms the framework for wonderful holidays for people from near and far, maybe you as the next?
The owners have chosen to arrange the house so that it allows many families to holiday together, as almost all of the rather large rooms have a bunk bed added, which is ideal if you have many children with you, and if not, then they are perfect to wear the suitcase, so you always have an overview of where the swimming trunks and sunscreen are located :-)
The outdoor areas are perfect for relaxing. The large swimming pool has plenty of sunbeds and at the end of the pool there is a covered terrace with barbecue and views of the swimming pool. There is a further terrace area at the exit from the house, so you can also eat a little closer to the kitchen if you wish, or you can enjoy the morning sun with a cup of coffee while there is life in the house.
This kitchen is located in the part of the house called Masia de Serrén II, which is a completely independent unit with its own entrance. The kitchen is well equipped with refrigerator, freezer, microwave, nespresso and more, and with direct access to a dining room and as mentioned exit to the terrace in front of the house. On the other side of the entrance hall are two double rooms which share a bathroom.
From the other side of the house, where there is also a lawn, there is entrance to Masia de Serrén I, where there is a larger dining room, a large and well-equipped kitchen and a living room. There is also a toilet. A beautiful staircase leads up to the first floor, where the house's other 7 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms are located.
The Jewel is a master bedroom with large double bed and bathroom ensuite where there is both a bath and shower. The remaining bedrooms are spread over the floor and share the other two bathrooms. There are four double bedrooms and all also with a bunk bed in the room, a single double room without a bunk bed, and the last room, which is slightly smaller, is furnished with two bunk beds.
The house is perfect for relaxing with its green surroundings and lovely pool area, but the house is also the perfect starting point for activities and excursions. The area has many cycle paths (bicycle companies can supply bicycles to the house if desired) and also the cycle route Via Verde which goes all the way from Olot in the mountains and out to the Costa Brava coast, comes through the area.
The fantastic regional capital of Girona (read more here) is only 10 minutes away, and the coastal towns on the Costa Brava coast can be reached in 25-35 minutes, depending on whether you are to wide sandy beaches or cozy isolated "calas", the Catalan word for a small beach tucked away in the rocky shore. In the other direction, the volcanic area “La Garrotxa” and Banyoles and Besalú, are fine excursion options, just as a day trip to Barcelona is almost a must. You can take the car or, if you prefer, the train from the local station.
