We have made an overview of when there are markets in the most important cities in Catalonia. First, however, we will introduce some markets that we are particularly excited about and that we can also recommend as an excursion, e.g. combined with a lunch.
Vic:
Vic prides itself on having the largest market in Catalonia, which is possible, although we have encountered some serious competition. A visit to Vic on market days is definitely worth a recommendation!
When: - TUESDAYS and SATURDAYS from 08:30 - 14:00
Where: In the center of Vic around the square
Vilafranca del Penedés:
As the main town in the Penedés wine district, Vilafranca del Penedés is Catalonia's wine capital and houses, among other things, a wine museum. They have a fantastic market spread over the center of town and also lots of lovely restaurants. You can also combine the market day with a visit to the neighboring town of Sant Sadurni, where the two major Cava producers Cordorniu and Freixenet have some fun and child-friendly tours.
When: SATURDAYS from 08:30 - 14:00
Where: In the center of Vilafranca
Girona:
In the center of Girona, the city has a large market hall with a multitude of stalls with everything the heart could desire in terms of food. So if you're a foodie, drop by when you're in and see Girona, which is worth a visit in itself. Read Lisbeth's blog about Girona for more inspiration.
When: Monday to Saturday from 08:30 - 14:00
Where: Mercat de Lleó - Plaça Calvet in Rubalcaba, s/n, 17002 Girona
