Casa del Olmo – “the house by the Elm” - is a cosy very typical Catalan country house, situated where some fields for grassing horses creates a green and sunny oasis in the forest.
From the house, there is a long walk down to the village Sant Pau on the bank of the Ter river, which starts in the Pyrenees and makes its way down through Catalonia, passing the regional capitol Girona, before it flows into the Mediterranean Sea.
From the entrance door you enter the very spacious and cosy country kitchen, which is preserved in original style and with the long wooden table and the rustic cabinet only adding to this impression. For the comfort modern conveniences such as stove, dishwasher, fridge with freezer, coffeemaker etc. has been added.
In the other side of the kitchen, there is direct access to the covered terrace with a beautiful view over the landscape. It is so well integrated, that you almost feel that you are cooking on the terrace.
On the two floors you find in total 5 double bedrooms, four of them with single beds and one of them with a double bed. Additionally, two extra beds are optional against supplement. The house has 2 bathrooms and the cosy attic has been made into a TV-room also with a DVD. The house has also a washing machine.
Outside, the beautiful swimming pool tempts you to have a dip, especially in the warm Catalan summer. Afterwards, relaxation in a sun lounger with a book or simply enjoying the scenery is a perfect way to gain new energy.
The situation in 980 meters altitude makes the summers very pleasant and even in the summer, there is sometimes snow. It is really a beautiful part of Catalonia, and ideal for those, who want to be near the mountains without losing the easy possibility of exploring the rest of Catalonia on half- of full day trips.
For instance, the drive down towards Figueres, passing Olot and on to Costa Brava, is a very nice excursion, where you can feel the Mediterranean sand at the beach at Roses or alternatively snorkelling around Llancá, perhaps a visit to the Museo Teatro Dalí in Figueres, which is also suitable for children due to his very special art, and then eat dinner in the cosy town of Olot on the way back.
Another day, you could make your way down to Barcelona, to have a look at this impressive metropolis. If you want shorter trips, Vic is a beautiful town and has Catalonia’s biggest market Tuesday and Saturday mornings. Even closer you find Ripoll, which is also a very nice town and the smaller neighbour-towns Sant Joan de les Abadesses or Camprodón.
