Can de Fontana – 3 bedroom holiday home with pool, overlooking the vinyards


Can de Fontana is beautifully situated in a small valley with vineyards -nicely insulated from the noisy and unattractive mass tourism. In this house you may have a relaxing holiday in a typical rural and Catalan atmosphere while having facilities like swimming pool, lavish furnishings and beautiful, spacious bedrooms.

The house is privately situated in one side of the big property of the Coll family, where they have produced the high quality wine for centuries, being part of the Priorát wine district. They live themselves 500 meters away, and in about same distance you find their other holiday home Can de Quima.

Can de Fontana is a really nice location for one or two families, relaxing on the terrace overlooking the pool and the vinyards. Or if you want some exercise, just follow the gravel road 3 km. to the town of Falset, which is a lively small town with all facilities and even train station with daily trains to Tarragona and Barcelona.

The house is recently reformed and is now of high standard. On one side of the house, you have the swimming pool and a round table in front of the house overlooking the landscape.

On the other side of the house, directly in connection with the inside dining room and the kitchen, there is great covered terrace for outside dining. There is also a barbecue, so you can grill your steaks!

The kitchen is well-equipped with all modern commodities such as dishwasher, oven, hotplates, fridge and freezer. The house is also equipped with a washing machine. On the other side of the kitchen, you find the sitting room with TV. There is also WIFI-internet in the house.

The house has three beautiful bedrooms:
Bedroom 1: Spacious room with mountain views of Morral and garden, with private bathroom and an extra bed, ceilings decorated with old oak vats of wine.
Bedroom 2: Double room with private bathroom and views of the valley Falset.
Bedroom 3: Double room with private bath and garden views.

During the season (August and September) you may help the owners with the annual vintage and get a glimpse of the life of a Catalan wine grower. Similarly, as guests in Can de Fontana, you have the opportunity to purchase the owners'wine, normally sold at 3-star Michelin restaurants in Barcelona.

You do not have to move far to enjoy all the beauty of the Priorat wine-district, but this house is also an excellent base for exploring the many sights of the the Tarragona Province. Horta de Sant Joan (famous home for the young  Picasso) and the river Ebro in the south and in the other direction, the city of Tarragona, the monastery of Poblet and for the children Universal Studios Port Aventura.

If you like to spend a day on the beach, you can reach the beaches of Costa Daurada in about 40 minutes. The owners can give you some hints.

Please note that the last kilometer or so is on a gravel road with some curves at the vinyard. Personally, we do not had any problems arriving during our visits, but we recommend not to arrive in very low sportscars. The reward when you pass this last part is that you will stay between the vinyards in Can de Fontana in relaxed atmosphere and beautiful view.

We had a wonderful vacation in the Priorat region. The valleys are truly beautiful and the wine of the region is incredible. Lots of sun filled days exploring the small villages, eating excellent lunches and tasting Priorat wines. We enjoyed our stay at Can de Fontana and embraced its rustic farmhouse nature. The sunsets were spectacular and we made great use of the terrace watching them each evening. The driveway into the house was an adventure and meant that going out in the evening was not practical. This did not bother us as we used the well equipped kitchen and wood burning bbq area to create our dinners. There were a few areas we believe could be addressed to make the house more attractive. The bath towels and dish towels are in dire need of replacement as an example. The piles of half burnt garbage and discarded metal close to the home could easily be cleaned up. Finally, a refresh of the dinnerware and glassware would be appreciated as there were lots of chipped plates and serving dishes and only two red wine glasses in the cupboard. A small investment of time and money and this would be an even nicer rental property.

Nous avons passé de merveilleuses vacances dans la région du Priorat. Les vallées sont vraiment
magnifique et le vin de la région est incroyable. Beaucoup de soleil rempli
journées à explorer les petits villages, à manger d'excellents déjeuners et à déguster
Vins du Priorat. Nous avons apprécié notre séjour à Can de Fontana et avons embrassé son
nature de ferme rustique. Les couchers de soleil étaient spectaculaires et nous avons bien fait
utilisation de la terrasse en les regardant chaque soir. L'allée dans la maison
était une aventure et signifiait que sortir le soir n'était pas pratique.
Cela ne nous a pas dérangés car nous avons utilisé la cuisine bien équipée et le bois
zone de barbecue en feu pour créer nos dîners. Il y avait quelques domaines que nous croyons
pourrait être abordé pour rendre la maison plus attrayante. Les serviettes de bain et
les torchons ont désespérément besoin d'être remplacés, par exemple. Les tas de
les ordures à moitié brûlées et le métal jeté près de la maison pourraient facilement être
nettoyé. Enfin, un rafraîchissement de la vaisselle et de la verrerie serait
apprécié car il y avait beaucoup d'assiettes et de plats de service ébréchés et
seulement deux verres à vin rouge dans le placard. Un petit investissement de temps et
argent et ce serait une propriété locative encore plus agréable.

A lovely house with great views of the hills, woods, and vineyards and spectacular sunsets. The pool was fantastic. Alberto was really helpful popping in every morning to check all was fine. Despite our extremely poor Spanish and lack of Catalan (and his of English) we manage just fine. He very kindly told us to pick as much as we like from his overflowing vegetable plot, so we had delicious tomatoes, aubergines, onions etc every night. While the house itself being away from the busy tourist areas around the coast, Tarragona and its excellent Roman sites, Reus, the Ebro etc are within easy reach. The surrounding countryside is attractive and villages unspoilt. Falset (the nearest town/village) is interesting with its castle and old town and has plenty of shops and restaurants selling local produce. The tomato festival was on while we were there which was great fun. The local Priorat wine is to be recommended and wine from their vineyard (there are bottles you can buy in the house) excellent. The one disadvantage is the long dirt track to get from the main road to the house which in our hire car was difficult because it slipped a bit on the loose gravel in the steep sections. This meant we didn't go out to eat at night as we might have done otherwise, But, then we had the beautiful views and Alberto's delicious vegetables and wine!

Une belle maison avec de superbes vues sur les collines, les bois et les vignobles et des couchers de soleil spectaculaires. La piscine était fantastique. Alberto était vraiment serviable tous les matins pour vérifier que tout allait bien. Malgré notre espagnol extrêmement pauvre et le manque de catalan (et son anglais), nous nous débrouillons très bien. Il nous a très gentiment dit de cueillir autant que nous le voulions dans son potager débordant, nous avions donc de délicieuses tomates, aubergines, oignons, etc. tous les soirs. Bien que la maison elle-même soit éloignée des zones touristiques animées de la côte, Tarragone et ses excellents sites romains, Reus, l'Èbre, etc. sont facilement accessibles. La campagne environnante est attrayante et les villages préservés. Falset (la ville/village la plus proche) est intéressante avec son château et sa vieille ville et regorge de boutiques et de restaurants vendant des produits locaux. Le festival de la tomate était pendant que nous étions là-bas, ce qui était très amusant. Le vin local du Priorat est à recommander et le vin de leur vignoble (il y a des bouteilles que vous pouvez acheter dans la maison) excellent. Le seul inconvénient est le long chemin de terre pour se rendre de la route principale à la maison, ce qui était difficile dans notre voiture de location car il glissait un peu sur le gravier meuble dans les sections escarpées. Cela signifiait que nous ne sortions pas pour manger le soir comme nous aurions pu le faire autrement, mais nous avons ensuite eu la vue magnifique et les délicieux légumes et vins d'Alberto!

Hyggeligt hus, og så fin udsigt inde midt i vinmarker. Ikke særlig svalt i soveværelserne som ligger på 1. og 2. sal.
Relativt langt fra indkøbsmuligheder (når man medregner den lange vej op og ned ad grusstier igennem plantagen), en egentlig by vil jeg ikke kalde det. Det betyder at man skal trives i sit eget selskab.
Udlejerne var søde og venlige, kom hver dag og tømte skraldespande osv. Det havde været rigtig rart at vide hvornår de kom, så man havde mulighed for feks. ikke at rende rundt i undertøj eller andet privat :)

Kommentar fra Sydens Feriehuse: Byen Falsét ligger 3 km. fra huset, så det faktisk nærmere end de fleste af vores huse :-) - Det er korrekt, at der er grusvej til huset, hvor man skal køre forsigtigt. Den omtalte by er Falsét, som er hovedbyen i vindistriktet Priorat. Hvis man kommer fra en storby, kan den sikkert godt virke lille, men det er den største by på egnen og har restauranter og indkøbsmuligheder. Mange hilsner fra Bertel & CO

Cozy house, and such a nice view in the middle of vineyards. Not particularly cool in the bedrooms on the 1st and 2nd floor.
Relatively far from shopping opportunities (when you take into account the long way up and down gravel paths through the plantation), I wouldn't call it a real city. This means that you must thrive in your own company.
The landlords were nice and friendly, came every day and emptied the bins etc. It would have been really nice to know when they came, so that you had the opportunity for e.g. no running around in underwear or anything private :)

Comment from Catalonia Holiday Lettings: The town of Falsét is 3 km away. from the house, so it is actually closer than most of our houses :-) - It is correct that there is a dirt road to the house, where you have to drive carefully. The town in question is Falsét, which is the main town in the Priorat wine district. If you come from a big city, it may seem small, but it is the largest city in the area and has restaurants and shopping opportunities. Many greetings from Bertel & CO

Maison confortable, et une si belle vue au milieu des vignes. Pas particulièrement frais dans les chambres au 1er et 2ème étage.
Relativement loin des possibilités de shopping (si l'on tient compte du long chemin qui monte et descend des chemins de gravier à travers la plantation), je n'appellerais pas cela une vraie ville. Cela signifie que vous devez vous épanouir dans votre propre entreprise. Les propriétaires étaient gentils et amicaux, venaient tous les jours et vidaient les poubelles, etc. pas de course en sous-vêtements ou quoi que ce soit de privé :)

Commentaire de Maisons De Vacances Catalogne : La ville de Falsét est à 3 km. de la maison, donc c'est en fait plus proche que la plupart de nos maisons :-) - Il est vrai qu'il y a un chemin de terre jusqu'à la maison, où il faut conduire prudemment. La commune en question est Falsét, qui est le chef-lieu de la région viticole du Priorat. Si vous venez d'une grande ville, cela peut sembler petit, mais c'est la plus grande ville de la région et il y a des restaurants et des possibilités de shopping. Cordialement de Bertel & CO

Een super locatie!!!! Enkel de nabijheid vd krekels:) Alle comfort alhoewel er misschien iets meer keukenmateriaal mocht aanwezig zijn,een groot voorxeel is de teppanyaki in keuken. Ook was ergeen parasol aanwezig,maar bij navraag zou de eigenaar daar voor zorgen. Ook te weinig ligbedden aan het zwembad, nu 4,voor 8 personen is dat wat weinig. Verder een unieke locatie met een zeer charmante eigenaar en zeer lekkere wijnen. Een aanrder zeker en vast.

A super location !!!! Only the proximity of the crickets :) All comfort although there might be a little more kitchen equipment present, a big advantage is the teppanyaki in the kitchen. There was also no parasol present, but upon inquiry the owner would take care of it. Too few sunbeds at the pool, now 4, for 8 people that is a little. Furthermore, a unique location with a very charming owner and very tasty wines. Certainly a leader.

We had an excellent time at Can de Fontana. The house was spacious, clean, comfortable and had everything we needed, but at the same time was full of character. It's in a great spot with beautiful views over the hills to the south, and surrounded by vines. The track to reach it is a little tricky to negotiate at first but we soon got used to it. The pool was lovely, and great to relax in after a day out or if we wanted a lazy day at the house.
Alberto was very helpful when we arrived and even escorted us into Falset to show us where we could get something to eat - not easy on a Sunday evening.
We liked the town and enjoyed the fiesta which was in full swing the week we were there (middle of August).
The area is beautiful and not too busy and the coast has some great beaches.
