Stay in beautiful surroundings in the most northern corner of Catalonia, just 7 km. from the French border. Can Matin is a 10,000m2 fenced estate surrounded by forests and crop fields, most of which are on the same property. There are a series of connected but independent buildings that are made up of 5 homes. The owner lives in one, who also takes care of the maintenance and services of the Mas.
If you rent the entire property, the owners will of course leave you will full privacy and be available for help and advice for activities and excursions. In addition, they offer breakfast and meals (advance booking).
The propety dates from the XVIII century and has lived through and adapted to the varied fortunes of the Empordà region. Wine, olives, cork and livestock were farmed here until just a few years ago, then the buildings were adapted to welcome rural tourism whilst retaining their architectural heritage.
This granite stone “Mas” has become a sustainable rural accommodation, with an organic garden, home cooking and a small cellar to taste the Empordà wines. You can enjoy taking the little ones to pick the vegetables from the garden.
In the garden there are many different spaces and corners, two large porches with barbecue facilities and also a beautiful stone and wood gazebo, all by the pool and jacuzzi, both saltwater. You also find sports equipment such as some bicycles, rackets, net, balls, goal and traditional Catalan bowling. It is also worth mentioning the multitude of routes for hiking, cycling or mountain biking that surround the Mas.
The natural center in the warm Catalan summer is the beautiful pool area. Here you find the swimming pool, of 4 meters x 11 meters, jacuzzi with solarium and a gazebo. Two 2 large porches with gas and/or wood or charcoal BBQ. provide shade and the perfect place for outdoor cooking. There is also a smaller additional porch. The property has private parking and even now with electric chargers, so you can charge the car while relaxing by the pool.
El Mas consist of four rustic houses or apartments with modern comfort, that provide seven spacious boutique rooms with biomass heating, A/C, eco-friendly bathroom kits, slippers and quality towels. Both main buildings have fully equipped kitchen with easy access to the garden for outside dining.
The first of the buildings has the common area in the ground floor, with kitchen, sitting room and dining room for big groups, in case you prefer to eat inside. On the first floor you find the “Migjorn apartment”.
The 200 m2 Migjorn apartment consists of a large living room with fireplace, kitchen-dining room, three bedrooms and a large solarium terrace overlooking the garden. The rooms Garnatxa and Muscat have a double bed (or two singles) and a sofa bed. La Carinyena has a double bed or two singles. All rooms have a bathroom, TV, heating and A/C.
The second of the buildings is divided into 3 apartments, apartment Llevant, apartment Tramuntana, and Apartment Ponent.
Apartment Llevant is a 45m2 studio apartment with beautiful spaces. It is accessed from the garden and has been adapted for people with reduced mobility. It is a large space with a double or two single beds, a very spacious adapted bathroom and a separate kitchen-dining area, all on the same level. It also has a small additional space with a half-point ceiling where we have a futon. You also find TV, heating and A/C.
Apartment Tramuntana is a 65m2 apartment with access from the main entrance of the Mas. It has a large living/kitchen area with a half-point ceiling from which you access the room with work table and separate bathroom. It has a double room and a kitchen/living space with a 140x180cm sofa bed. There is also a TV, heating and a ceiling fan to keep the temperature pleasant.
Apartment Ponent is a 80m2 apartment with access from the garden. It has a large living area with kitchen, dining table and sofa area with fireplace. At the floor there are two large double bedrooms with bathroom, overlooking the garden. All rooms have a bathroom, TV, heating and A/C.
To resume, all rooms (7) have a fully equipped bathrooms. All apartments have AC except the Tramuntana, due to its semicircular ceiling. It faces north and is very cool. It has an efficient ceiling fan.

The situation in the hilly landscape gives you the beautiful view to the Pyrenees separating Catalonia from France and inland you can find al kinds of outdoor activities (hiking, kayaking, cycling etc.). In the other direction, you can drive over the hills to the cosy seaside village of Port Bou, or you can drive via Figueres to the long sandy beaches in for instance Roses, and have swim in the Mediterranean Sea within only about 30 minutes drive.
Staying near Figueres, will recommend a visit to the spectacular Museo Teatro Dali, just remember to book tickets in advance to avoid the lineup. A bit further up the E-16 Motorway, you can visit Girona, which is one of our favourite cities of Catalonia. Also worth mentioning is three extraordinary nature spots: the natural parks of Cap de Creus, that of Aiguamolls (low waters) and the natural park of the Albera, they host historical monuments such as the Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, that of Sant Quirze de Colera or the Castle of Requesens.
Locally, there is a cozy village in walking distance (1,5 km.). This medieval village with stone houses, is well known for the several local wineries of the DO Empordà. It is surrounded by paths with dry stone walls and vineyard landscapes that coexist with the megalithic monuments of the area. Here, you find restaurant and bakery is within walking distance.
